SEIWA-KAI
AFRICA
SEIWAKAI INTERNATIONAL
Seiwakai, founded by Hanshi Shuji Tasaki in 1971, holds a significant place in the history of karate and is recognized as one of the prominent Goju Ryu organizations worldwide. The name "Seiwakai" is derived from the Japanese words "Sei," meaning pure or sincere, and "Wa," representing harmony or peace. These principles form the foundation of the organization's philosophy, emphasizing the pursuit of excellence in martial arts while promoting inner peace and unity.
The roots of Seiwakai can be traced back to the traditional Goju Ryu style, which was originally developed by Master Chojun Miyagi in Okinawa in 1930. The fundamental philosophy of Goju Ryu, with its integration of hard and soft techniques, resonated deeply with Shuji Tasaki during his training under the legendary Master Gogen Yamaguchi.
Hanshi Shuji Tasaki, one of Master Yamaguchi's most skilled and dedicated students, honed his abilities through rigorous training and real-life experiences on the streets of Tokyo. With his exceptional fighting prowess and unwavering dedication to karate, Tasaki earned a reputation as a formidable fighter and an influential instructor.
In 1971, Hanshi Tasaki decided to establish his own karate association to further propagate the teachings of Goju Ryu and promote his vision of traditional karate-do. Thus, the Seiwakai organization was born, with the primary aim of preserving the essence of Goju Ryu while embracing the principles of sincerity, humility, and harmony.
SEIWAKAI AFRICA
SEIWAKAI SOUTH AFRICA teaching is based on the ancient and traditional Japanese style of Goju Ryu Karate Do, one of the most popular martial arts forms practised worldwide and one of the few karate styles recognized by the International Olympic Committee and The World Karate Federation.
In addition to developing self-defence skills, martial arts training builds confidence and respect: Karate is the pursuit of perfecting one's character!
The primary goal of our program is not to teach children how to fight but rather how to respond appropriately when confronted with negative influences such as bullying, peer pressure, and gangs.
We also need to remember that these goals and achievements cannot be met overnight and that it requires continued commitment to see great results.
We acknowledge and respect each student's perseverance to achieve the next level in their karate journey.
